Augusta Truesdale is a one-year-senior originally from Loudon, New Hampshire, though she lived overseas most of her life. She loves cross-country, acting, and studying history, and her favorite food is (and always will be) sesame chicken. Her favorite author is Gabriel García Márquez, and she loves Vienna, Austria, so much that she learned German to be able to communicate with the street vendors there. In her free time, she can usually be found working out or watching any TV show starring Natasha Lyonne.
Inés is a 15 year-old sophomore from Alicante, Spain. She considers herself a young cartoonist who is in love with the world of animation and dragons. Starting from three years old, she enjoyed drawing and inventing stories and characters on her free time. Her dream is to make an animated series. Her favorite book is the trilogy of Electro, written by Javier Ruescas and Manu Carbajo. People often write her name wrong, but she can’t complain ‘cause she’s horrible at recalling other people’s names. She loves listening to music, too.
Christopher is a third year day student from Laconia NH. He mostly enjoys nonfiction reading, mainly regarding architecture and design. From these he gains insight into the work of his three favorite artists; Graphic Designer Paul Rand, Architect Norman Foster, and Industrial Designer Jonathan Ive. His favorite fictional work is The Catcher in the Ryeby J. D. Salinger. Christopher plays soccer in the fall, skis on his free time during the winter months, and is learning tennis this spring. Will is a 3rd year boarding student, from Boston, MA. Will’s main hobbies include sculpture, portraiture, and fitness. Will’s favorite book from the year so far is a play called Fences, by August Wilson. Will’s favorite artist is sculptor named Scott Fife. A fun fact about will is that he has been studying art at the Museum of Fine Arts for 9 years.
B Cornog teaches IB Literature in the English Department at NHS. She is also a faculty coordinator for Voices of New Hampton Her favorite writers include Marilyn Robinson, Lydia Davis, Cormac McCarthy, and George Saunders. In addition to overseeing the Voices of New Hampton reading series, she is also a coach for the Varsity Field Hockey and Softball teams. Did you know? Sigourney Weaver wanted to adopt Ms. Cornog from her family when she was 4.
Meghan Aronson teaches European Literature and Contemporary Literature in the English Department at NHS. She is also a faculty advisor for Belfry, the NHS yearbook. Some of her favorite writers include Ernest Hemingway, Jack Kerouac, Thomas Hardy, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Haruki Murakami. She enjoys hiking, practicing yoga, and cooking when she isn’t teaching. Did you know? Meghan has a goldendoodle, Fenwick, who likes to bite the bark off of trees while looking for squirrels.
Karina is a 16-year old junior from Kharkiv, Ukraine. She loves reading books in English,Russian and Ukrainian. Her favorite books are Fathers and Sons, The Da Vinci Code and Intermezzo. Karina began playing the piano at the age of four and graduated from the National School of Music # 5 in the specialization of piano five years ago. She is passionate about blogging, traveling, music interpretation, photography and social media management. Karina loves taking online courses, exploring fashion, and solving environmental issues. Her favorite movies are the Schindler’s List, Dead Poets Society and Amélie. Karina enjoys being the delegate in Model UNs as well as the official member of the European Youth Parliament.
Charles Emmanuel Ba Oumar is a 2 year senior born in Libreville, Gabon. He enjoys reading, and his favorite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, which “changed his life and expanded his horizons”. Also, he draws and paint in his free time. He joined Literati to be more involved with the arts at New Hampton School and practice his writing skills. He is a mediocre tennis player.
Dr. Woodard teaches Creative Writing and Literature in the English Department, and currently serves as the department chair. Some of her favorite writers are Seamus Heaney, Elizabeth Bishop, and Gjertrud Schnackenberg. She is the author of two volumes of poetry: Vellum (Able Muse Press, 2014) and Solitary Bee(Measure Press, 2016). Did you know? She drives to all the way to Vermont to watch her border collie, Billie, herd sheep.
Torre, a day student from Moultonborough, New Hampshire, is a four-year senior and founding member of Literati. He enjoys the literary works of JK Rowling, Charles Baudelaire, and the writers of Clickhole. His favorite film is Mr. Nobody, and he enjoys cross country, memes, theater, music, environmental science, and crossword puzzles. He’s super into anything really mentally stimulating, but in his free time, he occupies himself by sleeping, reading comedy articles, watching Jeopardy!, and eating. Next year, Torre will attend Middlebury College, in Middlebury, VT.
Jennifer, or Jenn, is a second year returning senior and founding member of Literati who also is a boarding student who moved from Jakarta, Indonesia. Currently she is engaged in the International Baccalaureate program and has dreams of becoming an orthodontist and one day owning her own practice and bakery! Her favorite movie series is Fast and Furious and Step-Up. Her favorite book is This Much I Know is True by Wally Lamb. She finds anything with comedy, drama, love, and suspense appealing. She enjoys doing anything with her close group of friends. A common misconception about Jenn is that she is quiet and shy. Just give her two minutes and she'll prove you wrong!
Emma is a four year boarding student from Manchester, New Hampshire. Emma is interested in studying international relations, Arabic, and Chinese at either American University or the University of St. Andrews in the coming year. She appreciates authors such as: Kurt Vonnegut, J. D. Salinger, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and Alice Munro. Her favorite movies consist of Into the Wild, Rocky Horror Picture Show, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. When Emma is not rock climbing or road cycling (two of her favorite activities), she will probably be napping, no matter the time of day. She likes to think her spirit animal is a sloth.
Hi, my name is Griffen Goldstock, I am a three year junior and I am a co-art editor for Literati. I have always loved art and literature and this was a perfect way for them to meet in the middle. Sophie was a boarding student from Westfield, New Jersey. Her favorite books include “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” (Betty Smith), “Outlander” (Diana Gabaldon), “The Secret Life of Bees” (Sue Monk Kidd), and many many more. Sophie attempts playing soccer in the fall, and stumbles through winter dance classes. However, her main activities are reading, sleeping, and stealing her roommates’ junk food. She also enjoys Model UN, Indie Pop, “The Breakfast Club”, and any Indian food she can get her hands on. Did you know? Sophie is bilingual.
Ms. Coles taught French in the World Language Department at NHS. Her favorite writers include Gustave Flaubert, Charles Baudelaire, Marcel Proust, and André Breton. She’s also way into surrealism, psychoanalysis, and smoothies. Besides running and thinking obsessively about France, Ms. Coles enjoys scratching her dog, America. Did you know? Ms. Coles once swam with pink dolphins in the Amazon. Ms. Coles has relocated to Bath, ME, and works with the Maine Jung Center.
Maddy was a day student at NHS for four years. Her favorite authors are Gillian Flynn, Nora Roberts and Edgar Allan Poe. She competes in tennis and volleyball, and is actively involved in community service, as well as serves as Vice President of the Student Body. She is also interested in pursuing a career in the medical field after college. Did you know that Maddy is obsessed with wearing sweaters? She owns like a hundred… Maddy is now at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.
Ria was a boarding student from San Miguel de Allende Mexico. Ria's favorite texts include "Going Solo" by Roald Dahl and "Wedding Toast" by David Rakoff. One of her favorite works of art is "Girl With Red Hat" by Johannes Vermeer. Ria is a proud founder of the NHS Women's Society and is an avid IB art student. Did you know? Matthias was a four-year senior at New Hampton School, and he enjoyed almost every moment. Matthias spends an unnatural amount of time thinking and drawing things that generally should not be thought or drawn. He uses almost exclusively pen and ink, filling his pages with gooey people and rigid shapes. His primary hope in art is to confuse and interest the viewer. By baffling the audience, his pieces hopefully evoke uncommon thoughts. Matthias now attends Parsons School of Design in New York, NY.
Andrew Henriquez is serving as co-Graphic Designer for the first issue of the digital version of Literati. He is an avid runner and has been on the NHS Cross Country team for 3 years now. He enjoys general fitness and considers himself a food enthusiast. His favorite texts include Gone Girl and the Millennium trilogy. Rogier de Boeve is one of his favorite graphic designers - he’s from Belgium. Did you know? Andrew can crack his thumb joints. Andrew is now pursuing graphic design professionally at Savannah College of Art & Design in Savannah, GA.
Adam is a senior from Holderness, NH. His favorite literary works are The Catcher In The Rye, Franny & Zooey, and Are You There Vodka It's Me Chelsea? His favorite poem is, "A Supermarket In California" by Allen Ginsberg and when he's not brooding and reading he can be found in the theater or the music room. His favorite movie is Donnie Darko and some of his favorite activities are writing, avoiding going to the gym, wearing sweaters, burritos, sleeping, trying to draw, and picking out colorful socks. Adam has a blind, semi paraplegic black lab named Zippy, who is a metaphor for one aspect of his life: you decide which ! Adam now attends Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.
